Tai and I have this great tradition of making a great breakfast every Sunday. We gorge ourselves on our favorite foods, mainly because during the week we are lucky to remember to grab a granola bar before running out the door. But as much as I can do in the kitchen, I ALWAYS manage to mess up cooking pancakes. And yet i can manage a perfectly cooked poached egg, go figure. So here’s to the second post in this series, introducing Foodie Fail: The Pancake Anomaly.
I run into several issues while making pancakes, so lets break it down by issue.
The pancakes are sticking to the pan
I was using my most trusted non-stick pan and lots of butter when this started happening. I would attempt to flip a pancake, when instead of peeling up from the pan my spatula would not be able to budge it. Huh?! I spastically tried to loosen it until the top of the pancake would tear off but the bottom would be glued to the pan.
Moral of the story: My pan was cheap and old and the non-stick had simply worn out. If you run into this problem, try switching pans and adding either butter or oil to help lubricate the pan to avoid sticking.
I can’t flip these things
If a pancake is larger than a clementine, I will fail at flipping it. It will break or land very awkwardly.
My solution? Using a fish spatula. It was that easy of a change.
